If you are searching for the most beautiful hotel near the Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna Costa Rica, read on for our review on the Amor Arenal Hotel. We loved our stay here last summer and would return in a heartbeat!

Amor Arenal Private Villa

Why we chose this hotel

We stumbled across Amor Arenal when searching for the perfect resort to spend two nights near the La Fortuna volcano. Once we saw the pictures of the luxury villas, we knew we had to stay here. It was also an adults-only hotel, (13 and up), so it was perfect for a couple’s trip or a special occasion such as a honeymoon or anniversary. However, it cost a bit more than we usually spend on hotels and we normally use points and miles to book free hotel stays.

Nightly Rate

The cost to stay in a luxury villa here was around $475 a night. At the time, I was a certified travel agent and was able to use my travel agent discount to save some money here. For the remaining balance, I used points from my Capital One credit card to erase my hotel purchase. I have a detailed post on our entire Costa Rica Trip here. This resort is well worth the nightly rate.

You could also book this resort through the Chase travel portal. Right now there is an increased offer on this card! With 80k points, you could book around two nights here. If you apply, I would love for you to use my link.

Checking into the Hotel

When we arrived at Amor Arenal, we were greeted upon arrival. There were complimentary refreshments and drinks for us. Everyone was so friendly and check-in was a breeze. We were then taken by golf cart to our private villa.

Welcome cookies, coffee and tea

The driver brought in our luggage and gave us a tour of the entire villa. He showed us how everything worked and explained the resort amenities. We had never experienced this kind of service! Amor Arenal deserves five stars for its outstanding service!

Included Amenities

A full breakfast was included in the nightly rate. The breakfast includes fresh juice, Costan Rican coffee, fresh fruit, pastries, oatmeal, and your choice of a menu item.

If you are a coffee lover, you will love their local Costa Rican French press coffee! The first morning I ordered Papaya Juice and the Costa Rican breakfast. Everything was delicious!

A stocked mini-bar is also included in the nightly rate. They also have welcome pastries in the villa. After a long day of traveling, we devoured these and thought they were amazing.

Complimentary mini bar

The villa includes everything you need for a comfortable stay, including robes, slippers, and bath amenities. They also have an air purifier in each room. A yoga mat and weights were also included in the closet.

There are two hikes on the property. You can choose to take a guide if you like. We did the shorter hike without a guide but wished we would’ve taken the resort up on their offer, so we could learn more about Costa Rica and more easily spot animals.

The Villas

Our private luxury villa was the highlight of our stay. Although we wanted to explore La Fortuna, it was difficult to leave our private villa. At 872 square feet, the villa is very spacious. Each villa has a private plunge pool/spa. The resort will heat your spa for you when you ask them.

The shower has two rain heads and a view of the rainforest! I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a better shower. The private deck has views overlooking the rainforest. If you are lucky, you may see the volcano or some animals. The villas have views of the Arenal volcano. Unfortunately for us, both of our days were cloudy and we could not see the volcano from our room. However, it did not affect our experience and we still loved our stay.

The villa is nearly all glass and we loved being awakened by the natural light as well as the sounds of the rainforest.

Resort Pools

The three resort pools are mineral water-fed pools. One of the pools has a swim-up bar and another pool offers food and drinks service. We visited the beautiful pools quickly but decided we would rather use our private pool in our villa. The resort pools looked deserted when we visited which is nice if you are looking for some privacy.

Dining

Amor Arenal has two dining options on a property. El Rancho serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We enjoyed breakfasts here both mornings as it was included in our nightly rate and we had dinner here both nights of our stay. The food is delicious. I ordered a steak for dinner and a pecan pie for dessert. It was the best pecan pie I had ever eaten! The food is priced pretty well for resort prices. However, if you want to save some money, you can eat much cheaper in town.

The other option is called La Jaranita. La Jaranita specializes in tapas and bocas. We did not have a chance to try out this dining option since our stay was short, but it seems like a great option if you are spending your time at the resort.

The resort offers transportation from your villa to the restaurants. The walk to the restaurant can be a bit much as it is straight uphill! We chose to walk and although we were laughing, struggling, and regretting our decision, the walk is very pretty as it’s along a stone path with beautiful tropical flowers lining the way.
